The Perfect Wedding Registry Picks For The Outdoorsy Couple
This post is in association with REI and MyRegistry.com. We were invited to share our wedding registry experience, and share some of our favorite wedding gifts for outdoorsy couples! This post may contain affiliate links – we are sharing items we use and love!
Today is our 3rd anniversary!
THREE YEARS of adventures, moving cities, buying a home, exploring some more, and having the best time with each other. We’ve had so much fun building our business together, and sharing our lives with you, our beloved readers.
Thank you for following along all this time! We’re excited to see what year three brings, and how we can share our passion for travel and adventure to enhance your lives as well.
An Adventurous Beginning
Our relationship has always been rooted in adventure. From proposing on top of Machu Picchu Mountain to our road trip honeymoon in Banff National Park, we seem to celebrate any and every special occasion outside.
That’s why when we began to think about our life together, life outdoors was a big part of who we were (and still are!).
Registering at REI for our wedding was an absolute no-brainer.
Being fresh from college (aka poor), we were essentially starting from scratch in the gear department. Through the years, we had cleverly pieced together a strategy to find quality discount outdoor gear, but getting married was an excuse to register for brand new gear! Sharing a wishlist of outdoor items helped our guests be a part of building our future together.
Now, every time we grab a piece of gear out for a trip, we think of that person and their generous gift during our wedding!
In this post, we’re sharing what a registry experience with REI can be like for you, and how to make the best decisions for you and your outdoorsy loved one!
What’s It Like Registering For A Wedding at REI?
REI invited us back this spring to re-live that fun registry experience. Three years later, it was fun to see what cool new gadgets were out, and the possibilities for more outdoor fun with REI!
Living only a mile away from our local store, we hopped in the car to meet with the friendly Spokane REI staff. They were so easy-going and gave us an overview of the store, its layout by category, and introduced us to skilled employees in certain sections.
They also helped us get started on creating a registry online. Here’s how to easily sign up…
Sign Up On Your Phone
The sign up process took minutes. We had to create a login and password, and confirm all the info on our email. After that, we were all set!
Once you’ve added REI to your registry list, you are free to roam around the store and scan the barcodes straight from your phone. Then, they are automatically added to your online registry!
*Want to add some things after your visit to an REI store? No worries! You can easily go online and add things from their website!
Wander The Sections To Find The Best Outdoor Gifts For Your Wedding Registry
Camping, cycling, cooking, backpacking, travel, clothing, shoes, the list goes on! REI has almost every outdoor piece of gear you could dream of having.
Berty and I spent a good hour and a half going down every aisle in our local Spokane REI, dreaming of future backpacking trips and outdoor barbecues to have this summer.
Many REI stores will have a staff member dedicated to one specific area, and they are experts in categories like shoes, camping gear, bikes, and so much more.
All it took was one quick question, and the team member in that section helped us make the best camping registry decisions by comparing products, details, and prices quickly and efficiently.
As we wandered around, it was so nice to get clarifying answers from the staff who knew the products inside and out! After a quick chat with them, we knew we would be putting the right items on our list.
What Makes A Good Outdoor Wedding Registry?
So, what exactly do you put on your camping wedding registry list? Before you get to list building with your boo, we’ve put together a few pointers on getting started…
Share Gifts From A Large Range of Prices
If you’re like us, we invited a lot of different people from various seasons in our lives to our wedding. This included college friends, people we knew since we were babies, family, community members, and work friends.
Not all guests will have the same budget, if any. Gifts aside, it’s always good to remember that their presence is a present in itself, and to enjoy celebrating your wedding day together!
However, if they do care to give you both a gift, choosing gifts at varying price ranges can appeal to everyone and their varying budgets.
This allows your guests to find a price range that fits them, and make them feel like they are able to contribute in whatever capacity is comfortable for them.
Cover A Wide Array Of Activities On Your Outdoor Wedding Registry
Like the adventurous and interesting person you are, you probably surround yourself with similar company.
Your wedding guests are involved in your life in different ways, and that can influence the kind of gift they may decide to give you.
Choose from a wide range of your favorite outdoor activities so you can share future experiences with your guests!
Add Personal Touches And Pick Long Term Gear Investments
One of the many reasons people give gifts at weddings is to set the newlywed couple up with items they may not have had or needed before. These items often are long term pieces, like cookware sets, appliances, or furniture.
It’s important to give your outdoor registry items the same thoughtful and personal touches you would on, say, a home registry.
Things like tents, sleeping bags, and camping gear will last you years, so make sure you read the reviews and add things you believe will last you a lifetime.
It’s also important to give your items a personal touch, so choose gear in colors or patterns that fit you as individuals or a couple to really make items special.
When In Doubt, Add It To Your Outdoor Registry Anyway
After the wedding, you may have some items and outdoor gear left on your registry. REI provides a 10% discount on anything left over on your outdoor wedding registry after the big day.
This means, add more than you think is necessary!
This not only gives your guests more options for gifts, but it also provides you with a discount so you can go back and purchase some favorites at a fraction of the price.
