Early Morning Hike At Lake Wenatchee

Post Summary: A recap of sunrise at Lake Wenatchee

The morning started out with plans to hike Lake Serene in Snohomish County, just an hour away from where we live in Seattle.

Well, we were a little over-zealous with our ambitions…we woke up at 3 am, picked up our friends Matt and Kate, and arrived at the trailhead in Mt. Index way quicker than we expected.

It was still pitch black outside.

We had forgotten our headlamps (even though we literally wrote a blog post about packing some – and STILL forgot).

We felt a little weird about hiking so far with just our phone lights, so we made a last minute decision to spend the morning in Lake Wenatchee instead. Here’s our morning in pictures.

Lake Wenatchee Beach

In order to get to this iconic lake, you can find beach access right off of Highway 207.

This place is worth a visit any time of year.

Pictures below is what it looks like at the end of summer, but this photo on Berty’s instagram show the magic of the island in the middle of winter. We definitely recommend coming back in the colder months – Emerald Island is one of the easiest and best hikes in Washington state for winter photography!

Hidden Lake Trail

Just a 15-minute drive away from the waterfront of Lake Wenatchee is a short hiking trail called Hidden Lake.

Because we were feeling bad for ditching our original 8-mile adventure, we searched for a short trail near the lake so we could take some time and enjoy the wilderness.

We were pleasantly surprised at the top with a glassy lake reflection, perfect for some calm contemplation and rest in the morning.
