5 Reasons Why You Should Take A Kauai Helicopter Tour

Post Summary: Reasons To Book A Kauai Helicopter Tour, like, now.

On the plane from Seattle to Kauai, Berty and I were teeming with excitement.

As per usual, I struck up a conversation with a couple sitting next to me on the plane, eagerly telling them it was our first time visiting Hawaii.

They were Hawaiian regulars and were talking about how awesome the island of Kauai was. I asked them what their favorite activity was on the island, and immediately both of them said that taking a Kauai helicopter tour was the best thing to do.

A helicopter tour?

My first thought was that it was a little excessive and totally out of our budget. But as they described it to us, we were quickly convinced it was a necessary activity.

If you are still on the fence about whether you should book a Kauai helicopter tour (it can be up to $250 per person!!), we hope this post convinces you that the price is worth it.

Kauai has hidden waterfalls to discover, deep canyons to explore, hidden coastlines and so much more only available to people who want to see it by air!

5 Reasons To Book A Kauai Helicopter Tour

1. Close-Up Views To Inaccessible Waterfalls

Many of Kauai’s waterfalls are on private land, inaccessible by road, or simply hidden from view by the dense forest.

By taking a Kauai helicopter tour, you are able to see these up close! Our favorite one was this stack of four waterfalls all leading into this deep valley.

2. Panoramic Views of the Na Pali Coast

The Na Pali Coast is a rugged 16-mile coastline with dramatic cliffs and hidden valleys.

This part of Kauai is inaccessible to cars because no there are no roads that lead to it. The only way to experience this coast is by a strenuous hike, by boat, or (you guessed it) by air.

By exploring this area via a Kauai helicopter tour you are able to see the entirety of the coastline from the blue ocean to the “cathedrals”, of one of Kauai’s most famous ridges.

3. Exploring Inside Waimea Canyon

On the ground, Waimea Canyon is viewable from several overlooks on the west side of the island.

However, when you explore the “Grand Canyon of the Pacific” by air, many pilots take you inside the deep ravine to give you a closer look at the red and green landscape.

You also get a much closer look at the Waipo’o Falls!

4. Seeing the “Wettest Spot on Earth”

Mt. Wai’ale’ale is said to be one the wettest spots on the planet.

You can hike through the dense jungle to a valley below called the “Blue Hole”, but this hike is extremely strenuous and dangerous without a local guide.

Fortunately, an easier way to see this prized spot is by helicopter.

Fly into the canyon to get up close and personal with the “weeping walls” that seem like water is bursting from the surrounding rock!

5. Interesting Facts from Experienced Pilots

On our flight, we were placed with an experienced pilot who had been flying in Kauai for 20 years!

As we were in the air, he gave us short history lessons about certain places and told us where various movie scenes were shot.

He even showed us the beach where Bethany Hamilton survived a shark attack!

Our Kauai helicopter tour pilot also showed us some more hidden waterfalls and pointed out a mountain range known as the Sleeping Giant.

We would have never known these things if it weren’t for our experienced pilot tour guide.
