Photo Journal: Tijuana, Mexico

In April 2015 Berty and I first went down to Tijuana, Mexico to partner with an organization called Doxa. Doxa is a program that provides lower-income or struggling families with an opportunity to receive permanent housing. The receiving families are a part of this program for months. Now, this isn’t a handout program. These receiving families work several months in order to obtain lawful ownership of the land. They also spend countless service hours at the local orphanage, Casa Hogar De Los Ninos. Since 2015, Berty and I have gone down every April with 60+ students from our church in Seattle. Our group participates in the physical house building part, but this is only one piece of the larger group effort! It’s very rewarding to come alongside these hardworking and deserving families in their pursuit for a home.

This year, (with the exception of me, Emily) we are excited to return to Tijuana this April to continue old friendships and begin new ones. This post is dedicated to all the students who are finding out their house building groups tonight! May this be the beginning of a wonderful journey of friendship and growth.
