Hurricane Ridge: The Ultimate Sunset Trip

Nadine is still in town! While she has seen a ton of the Northwest, we couldn’t let her leave to Australia without taking her to the Olympic Peninsula first. This gave Berty and I a great excuse to go out and play tour guide once again. Our original plan was to go all the way to La Push and watch the sunset. However, we ended up leaving around 3:30 in the afternoon. So plans changed, and we decided to drive over to Hurricane Ridge instead, to watch the sunset there!

Berty and I hold a special place in our hearts for road trips. They are the perfect time to connect with one another and soak in the beauty around you. It was really cool to hear more of Nadine’s story and go deep into her Instagram feed while she explains her many beautiful pictures. haha The three of us spent hours talking about the future, and potential trips to Australia….soon we hope!

Berty and I have been up to Hurricane Ridge many times. We’ve seen it covered in feet of snow, trekking on snowshoeing trips, and more. But this time was different. The sunset made the mountains look like they were on fire. Reds, oranges, and yellows filled the sky. These photos shown are the very end of the sunset because naturally we enjoyed the best part of it with our eyes instead. 🙂 It was also the most peaceful and quiet we have ever seen it. I couldn’t help but keep my voice down because I didn’t want to interrupt the commanding silence.

Berty, Nadine and I parked the car and climbed to the top of a nearby hill. We brought a picnic basket and Nadine so kindly packed some food for us to eat. We had received that picnic basket as a wedding gift, and it has come in such handy this summer. The only thing we had missing was hot chocolate! Nadine mentioned it as we were wrapped in our blankets and I couldn’t have agreed more.

As we were about to leave Berty pulled over to get the last bit of sunset barely lighting up the ridge. Nadine and I rolled down our windows and leaned our heads out the window. We drank up the cool breeze and breathed in smell of evergreens. It was so. peaceful.

And that’s it. Some people must think we’re crazy to drive hours and hours only to catch a sunset. But it’s really more than that. The conversations, the scenery, and the opportunity to experience Washington is something we feel is special. Not many people have the privilege of having Hurricane Ridge in their own backyard! It was a pleasure for Berty and I to meet Nadine and show her around during her time here in the PNW. Who knew our excursion to Mt. Baker would be the start of an awesome friendship! We will be sad to say goodbye to her soon, but excited for connecting again in the future. 🙂
